Thermal management is all around us, from the transfer of heat from your skin to the air, to the electronics cooling in your computer, thermal management is everywhere. So why not thermal management of a city? The city of Toronto asked that same question and a company named Enwave brought forth an answer: Deep Lake Water Cooling.

Deep lake water cooling is simple heat transfer. Cool water is brought up from a cold lake and then heat exchangers on buildings that receive the cold water cool the buildings. In all, 35Megawatts of electricity were taken off the energy grid and there was a reduction in pollution in the city. Thermal management at work!
