the theme of cd-adapco’s star global conference 2013 was “engineering success.” during his welcome speech, cd-adapco’s president, steve macdonald said, “the agenda for this conference illustrates an uncomfortable truth about modern engineering: there really are no easy problems left to solve. the solution of complex industrial problems require software solutions that span a multitude of physical phenomena. rather than just analyzing individual components, we are finally reaching the stage where our software is capable of simulating entire systems." macdonald reported that cd-adapco will be a $200 million company by the end of the fiscal year and will continue to invest resources into the development for engineering simulation tools that address a wide range of multi-disciplinary challenges.

gene kranz, legendary nasa flight director, was the keynote speaker at the conference. his riveting presentation detailed his experience in directing the successful mission control team efforts to save the crew of apollo 13. attendees were able to connect the engineering success of the 70’s with how far engineering success through simulation has come today.

the star global conference was also the official release event for star-ccm+ v8, the latest, greatest, version of cd-adapco’s flagship simulation tool. jean-claude ercolanelli, senior vp product management, closed his presentation with a roadmap looking forward to the coming year of cd-adapco’s product development. the pace of enhancements and features development is unrivaled in the cae market. in addition, attendees learned firsthand from experts in 15 available star-ccm+ training courses and were equipped with a wealth of hints and tricks to make their own cae process more effective.

conference organizers received the largest number of abstracts making the event the most diversified in cd-adapco’s conference history. approved conference presentations will be available on the cd-adapco website (http://www.cd-adapco.com/downloads/forum_presentations/) by the end of the month.

the star global conference 2014 is set to take place in vienna, austria next march.
